Returns & Exchanges
Version of 4 August 2026
We make wooden things for children by hand, and we want the purchase to feel right. If something doesn’t suit, you can send it back. No explanation needed, no talking you out of it, no “did you unpack it carefully enough”.
Here’s how it works. The full legal wording is in section 8 of the Terms of Sale.
In short
- 14 days to return any item, counted from the day you received it.
- No reason required.
- We pay for return shipping.
- Refunds go out within 7 days of the item reaching us.
- Made-to-order pieces come back on exactly the same terms as everything else.
Your right to return
You may terminate the contract within fourteen days of receiving the goods. This right comes from Article 13 of the Law of Ukraine “On Consumer Rights Protection”, which covers purchases made at a distance.
Note where the clock starts: the day the parcel reaches you, not the day you ordered or paid. If the item spent two weeks in transit, those two weeks don’t eat into your window.
Made-to-order pieces are returnable too
The law lets sellers refuse returns on items built to individual specifications — your dimensions, your cord colour, an engraving. We could formally say no.
We don’t. A crib woven to your measurements can be returned on the same terms as anything in the catalogue.
The reasoning is simple: you choose size and colour from photographs on a screen, and it seems unfair to put the risk of “it looks different in person” on you.
What condition the item should be in
Return the item in the condition you received it.
None of this prevents a return:
- you opened the box;
- you inspected the piece, turned it over, held it up against the cot;
- you removed the protective wrapping.
Unpacking and inspecting do not affect your right to return — the law says so explicitly, and we agree with it. There’s no other way to tell whether something fits.
This does prevent a return:
- the item has been used for its purpose;
- there are marks of use, stains, or odour;
- the item was damaged after you received it.
If the piece has lost its saleable condition through your fault, we may reduce the refund by the corresponding loss in value. We’ll tell you before transferring the money, not after.
How to arrange a return
- Write to us at legal@babywood.shop or call +380 (63) 180-38-79. Give your order number and say what you’re returning.
- We reply with the address to send it to.
- Send the parcel. Return shipping is on us — either we reimburse the postage or we arrange the pickup at our expense, whichever suits you.
- We receive it and refund you within seven days of the parcel arriving.
Refunds go back the way you paid: card payments return to the card; cash on delivery or bank transfer goes to details you provide.
If the item is faulty
That’s a separate case, and a different clock applies — the warranty period rather than fourteen days.
Found a crack, delamination, a splinter, an unstable structure or weaving that’s coming apart? Write to us with photographs. The choice of remedy is yours:
- have the defect fixed free of charge;
- have the price reduced proportionately;
- be reimbursed for the cost of repair.
Where the defect is substantial — meaning the item cannot be used for its intended purpose at all — you may demand replacement or a full refund.
Defects are rectified within fourteen days of your claim; refunds on termination are made within seven.
The warranty period on our items is 12 months. Even after it expires, the law gives you two years from receipt to raise claims about defects that are our fault.
Defect versus the character of the material
Wood and cotton cord are living materials, and handwork is never identical twice.
Not a defect: variation in shade and grain between items and within one item · knots and small natural inclusions · slight differences in cord shade between batches · microscopic irregularity in the weaving · dimensional variation within ±2 cm.
A defect: a crack in a structural element · delamination · a splinter on a working surface · an unstable structure · a broken finish · weaving that comes undone.
One thing worth being clear about. If the item didn’t work for you precisely because of the shade of the wood or the texture of the cord — that isn’t a defect, but it is reason enough to return it within fourteen days. The section on natural variation explains why we don’t treat it as a fault; it does nothing to narrow your right to send back a piece you didn’t like.
Exchanging for another item
Separately from returning, you may exchange an item of proper quality within fourteen days, not counting the day of purchase, if it didn’t suit in shape, size, colour or dimensions — provided its saleable condition, consumer properties, labels and the sales receipt have been preserved.
The list of goods not subject to exchange on this ground is set by Resolution No. 172 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 19 March 1994. Baby Wood items are not on that list — it contains neither wooden goods nor woven baskets.
We cover the shipping on exchanges too. The law doesn’t require this — the seller’s obligation to pay for return shipping applies to termination of the contract, not to exchanges. We decided not to split the two: the difference between “returning” and “exchanging” shouldn’t turn into different rules for you.
If the parcel arrives damaged
Inspect the parcel when you collect it, while you’re still at the branch.
If the box is crushed or torn, or the item inside is damaged, ask the carrier’s representative to draw up a report and write to us the same day. With that report the matter is settled quickly, without arguments about who’s at fault.
